Picking at "Old Scabs"

We've all done it, and will probably do it again. Those old scabs that seem to have almost fully healed are so tempting to pick at aren't they? We try to avoid them, knowing that they will just start bleeding again.. but sometimes its hard to resist.

And no, I'm not talking about an actual scab, I'm talking about those "EX" boyfriends. Yep, those little snakes.

Seems like a radar goes off when you're finally happy and content without them, right? They start itching, hitting your line, texting you good morning, liking all your pics on IG, subtweeting you..you know, the normal EX routine. So annoying. but eventually we cave into it. We say "let me just see what they want"...wrong move! Why?

Well, what's really the point? Obviously they have a plan & that plan is to get right back into your life and pick up where they left off. This usually is for their own benefit/happiness and has nothing to do with you or your well being. They just want to wake up those old feelings because they "miss you". But is it you that they really miss?

Is it the 'new you' they see on your Facebook page or is it the old memories they're holding on from 3 years ago?

So, what ends up happening? You fight the urge and start picking at the scab. You start texting..checking on each other more often..you may even sneak in a few late night phone calls to reminisce. And it only gets worse from there. Now you're planning to meet.

Picking at the scab wasn't enough, you're ready to peel that bad boy right on off! You've already started! Why not finish the job, right?!

You meet. Its..awkward. It wakes up so many emotions and memories. You start thinking maybe it could work again? You forget why it even ended! You get caught up in the false hope they feed you about it being "meant to be" and blah blah blah. The scab is peeled, and you feel kind of relieved. accomplished even. But what have you really done?

Time passes and you start to sting. Those same irritating things that pushed you away start coming back. You realize nothing has really changed, and in reality the hurt is still there! The pain resurfaces and you're bleeding again...left to deal with the healing process all over again. And how did this benefit you?

It didn't. Just retaught you a old lesson you clearly forgot.

Now in some rare cases, love from the past can return and work out great! But in most instances, it just doesn't work out.

I've done this and what I've learned is that its not worth it to pick at the scab. Let it heal and fall off on its own. Its only purpose is to leave a small scar reminding you of your lessons learned and to never return.

Decatur Tour of Homes

I've always been a fan of local "tour of homes". It inspires me to try new things in my space by seeing how others transform theirs. So, when I Googled my local tour of homes, I ran across one held in Decatur, Ga. It featured some fabulous homes in the Downtown Decatur historical area. Now as much as I loved touring the homes, I'm always on a tight budget, so I looked for the volunteer tab. Low and Behold they were looking for volunteers and offering a FREE ticket to the tour along with it! Jackpot (saved $25) ! So, of course I offered my services for my free ticket :)

The homes were absolutely GORG! Every home was built AGES ago and were completely renovated to "today's" sleek/contemporary style. I loved how they managed to keep the original character of each home like original brick walls and hardwood floors from the 1900s! It goes to show that with a little (or a lot) of hard work, any house can be made a home!

Now, they didn't let us take any photos (which sucks) , so all I have are pics of my name tag and pamphlet haha, but the point of this was to let you know that most events you want to attend (but may not have the budget for) have another way in! It may be through volunteering or actually working the event ( I've done this before and it was great! attending for free + getting paid is AWESOME), there's always a way to have good "cheap" fun :)

A Neo-Soul filled night @ Café Circa

Last night I had the pleasure of meeting up with a sorority sister that came to town for the weekend! We decided to hit up a spot downtown and try their hookah.. Simple & chill but fun night in Atlanta :)

We arrived at Café Circa which was two minutes from her friend's gorgeous loft downtown. The place wasn't packed at all for a Friday night. It was very nice on the inside but small..not too small, but small. The intimate setting was perfect for the entertainment provided that night.

Much to our surprise every Friday night Café Circa hosts a small live band with an AMAZING vocalist. Their smooth melodic neo-soul sounds created the perfect environment.

We enjoyed our (normal priced) hookah in the flavor of skittles. That had plenty of flavors to choose from by the way. It was a fun way to wind down from the week and catch up with old and new friends!

I will definitely be going back and I suggest you check it out too!

Something Lee's listening to..

Oh Saint Heron... Okay, so if you haven't already listened to this compilation put together by Solange you've basically been living under a rock. No, really you have. This magical bundle of music is very Indie-R&B. Its smooth, breathy, mellow, and chill and I'm in LOVE with all of it! Now "Go all night" is just one of my favorites from the album & I decided to share. So listen, groove, and check out SaintHeron.com to hear more. oh yeah, you're welcome ;)

What's in a name?

The last step: Name your blog..

Seems simple right? wrong?
I've thought about the creation of this blog. I think Im a pretty creative person. I love art, music, fashion, you know, all those things "bloggers" like. So, why not start my own. I feel as though I have some knowledge to share, (plus it sounds easy enough)! I've written out all of topics I would cover. Things that inspire me, make me upset, pull at my heartstrings, spark my crafty side, and make me giggle ;) So when I came to the last step.. the name ..I came up short.

Naturally, I turned to my good friend Twitter.
(disregard my typo)

They never answer on time so I went deeper..

& some people woke up

I also sent out a few texts, just to see what my friends would come up with..

..good advice huh? So, I did just that. Sat there and looked around. and around. and around. Until I finally looked back on twitter because I got bored sitting around.
(oh yeah, feel free to follow me on twitter!)

I looked at my "bio" (or lack there of) and there it was. Simple and plain as day.

"Behold A Lady"

It was perfect. I felt it described me in so many ways. Not over the top. Not in your face. It was calm. It was straight to the point and clear. Just like me. I even thought it was kinda sexy ;)

So I went with it.
Behold A Lady.
